Slavery and Prophet Muhammad

Much is made of the fact that Prophet Muhammad freed Zayd and treated him like a son. But the Qur’an and Hadith consider slavery as normal:

"Do not marry unbelieving women until they believe:

A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman …" (Qur’an 2:221 )

Muslim 32 The Prophet said: "When the slave runs away from his master, his prayer is not accepted"; he is an infidel.

Hadith Malik 361:1216 When the master or husband of a slave-girl dies, her iddah (period of waiting to remarry) is two months and five days.

Hadith Malik 362:1221 Ibn Fahd said: "I have some slave girls who are better than my wives, but I do not desire that they should all become pregnant. Shall I do azl (withdrawal) with them?" Hajjaj said: "They are your fields of cultivation. If you wish to irrigate them then do so, if not keep them dry."

Hadith Malik 365:1245 A man said: "My wife has wilfully given my slavegirl with whom I used to cohabit her own milk to drink. What is my relationship to my slave-girl?" Omar said: "Punish your wife and go into your slave-girl."

HadithMalik 486:1511 A slave-girl had used sorcery on Hafsah, wife of the Prophet. The slave-girl was sentenced and executed.

Hadith Malik 496:1540 A man went on a journey with the slave-girl of his wife and went into her. The envious wife reported it to Umar who said the husband would be stoned unless the slave girl was owned by him. The wife spoke out to save him: "I had given her as a gift."

Mishkat 470 Abu Rafi, slave of Muhammad, reported that one day the Prophet went through his wives taking a bath after intercourse with each.

Bukhari 5:59;637 Ali took a bath after sex with a slave girl (Quite lawful if she belongs to you)

22/12/99 Christian group buys freedom  of 5,514 Sudan slaves

CSI (Christian Solidarity International) said the latest redemption of mainly women and children brought to 20,961 the number of black, African slaves freed through its programme since 1995.

"The slaves, mainly Christian and animist women and children from the Dinka tribe were brought out of captivity in northern Sudan and returned to their homeland in the south by eight networks of Arab retrievers.

CSI accuses the armed forces of Sudan’s National Islamic Front of capturing non-Muslims in raids which are part of the regime’s jihad or Islamic holy war, against minorities who resist its policies of "Islamisation and Arabisation:.

CSI has come under fire for allegedly fueling the slave trade. The head of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, Carol Bellamy, has said the practice "encouraged more trafficking and criminality".

The CSI says more than 100,000 people remain in bondage in northern Sudan as slaves or are "subjected to slave-like practices in the Sudanese government’s concentration camps euphemistically called "peace camps for the displaced".

A slave’s current value is two goats or $50..

"Some Islamic History"

The King allowed in U S troops as part of a Training Mission on the proviso that it be free of Jews and that Christian ceremonies were forbidden. In 1962 there had been about thirty thousand slaves in Saudi Arabia but pressure by the United Nations eventually brought about the abolition of slavery, despite opposition by the fundamentalists.
